DIAMOND WEDDING
MR AND ’MRS A. SCOTT
During the week-end Mr and Mrs A. Scott, 38 Good street, Rangiora, celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage. Their wedding took place on June 23, 1886, at the parsonage. Pigeon Bay, the Rev. H. S. S. Hamilton being the officiating minister. Mr and Mrs Scott lived in the Pigeon Bay district for many years, where Mr Scott had a mixed farm of about 230 acres, which previously belonged to his father. He was born in Pigeon Bay nearly 84 years ago, and was on the farm until 1927, when he because of ill-health. Since then he has mafle his home in Rangiora, where' both he and his wife keep fairly good health.
Mrs Scott, formerly Miss Luise Taylor, will be 88 years old in September. She went to live in Pigeon Bay when she was five years old, and attended the Pigeon Bay School, where her husband was also educated. In later years he was a well-known member of the school committee.
Many interesting anecdotes of the early days on the Peninsula can be related by Mr Scott and his wife. On numerous occasions they travelled to Christchurch by horse and cart. Mr Scott said that the roads were fair in those days; “but not what you would call good.” Mr and Mrs Scott had nine children two of them being killed in the Great War. There are 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Many friends in the district visited Mr and Mrs Scott during the week-end to offed their good wishes, and numerous messages of congratulation were received.
