MAGISTRATE’S COURT
MONDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) REMANDED John Michael McGurrin, a labourer and seaman, aged 24, was remanded to July 1 on a charge of robbery with violence. Reuben Henry Cannon, a farm hand, aged 33, was remanded till to-day on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge, at the Chatham Islands, of a girl aged 11 years and eight months. Bail was allowed at £2OO in accused’s own recognisance, with one surety of £2OO, or two of £lOO each. SEAMEN CHARGED James William Charles Rodgers, a ship’s fireman, aged 21, and Robert Marr Walker, a seaman, aged 23, pleaded guilty to being found without lawful excuse on the enclosed premises of the guards’ room jit the Christchurch railway station. Sub-Inspector G. J. Paine said that the accused had attended a dance on Saturday evening, and at 3 a.'m. on Sunday went to the station to find somewhere to sleep. There had been no ulterior motive in their visit. The captain of their ship wanted them both to join the ship that Accused were convicted and ordered to be placed aboard the ship.
