Bobby Locke’s Record Round —The South African golfer, Bobby Locke who had a second round of 69. which broke the course record by two strokes, won the Brand Lochryn golf tournament at Manchester with a total of 287. His fourth round was 74. Dai Rees and C. H. Ward, with 289, were second, and the next best scores were those of W. J. Branch, 292, Henry Cotton and Busson 293, Norman von Nida and J. Adams 294.—London, June 23. Russian Chess Champion Beaten— The Bjptish chess champion, C. H. Alexander, aged 38. a Foreign Office official, gained a surprise win over the Russian champion. Bowinnik in the radio chess international. Alexander won in 40 moves. Bowinnik resigned when he was in a hopeless position. Bowinnik is a contender for the vacant world title.—London. June 21. Sydney League Club’s Tour.—The St. George Rugby League Club has reopened negotiations for a tour of New Zealand at the end of the season. Some months ago the Balmain and North Sydney clubs began similar negotiations with the New Zealand Rugby League. The St. George Club’s project began in 1944 when New Zealand extended an invitation, but shipging restrictions prevented the tour.— ydney, June 23. London Tennis Championships.—The finals of the London lawn tennis championships at Queen's Club resulted: men’s singles—F. Segura (Ecuador) beat D. Pails (Australia), 8-4, 0-8, 8-4. Women’s singles—Miss P. Betz (U.S.A.) beat Miss M. Osborne (U.S.A.), 8-8. 6-3, 6-3. Men’s doubles—G. E. Brown and Pails (Australia) beat Buser and Huonder (Holland), 8-1, 8-4. Women’s doubles—Misses L. Brough and Osborne (U.S.A.) beat Misses Betz and {?• ? ar * (U.S.A.), 6-2, 6-1. In the semifinals Pails beat Brown, 8-4, 6-4 and Segura beat J. Kramer (U.S.A.) by default. Kramer had a blistered hand.
