KING’S FLIGHT

FOUR NEW VIKING AIRCRAFT

LONDON, June 21. “Plans have been finally approved for the internal furnishings of four Viking aircraft, costing about £250,000, for the reorganised King’s Flight, which is expected to be completed in Vickers-Armstrong’s Weybridge factory by November,” says the “Daily Mail.” “Their Majesties will fly in separate aircraft having identical interior layouts, with carpets of dark blue plush. The Queen has chosen a quiet scheme of blue, beige, and ivory. “No bunks will be provided in Their Majesties’ aircraft, as they are not intended for use at night. A pantry will be equipped only for the preparation of cold meals and hot drinks. “Two detectives and a door attendant —a kind of aerial postilion for aerial Royal coaches—will be carried at the rear of each aircraft.

“One of the other aircraft will have 20 seats for other members of the Royal retinue, and the fourth will carry maintenance crews and spare parts. Each of the four aircraft will have 17 aerials to serve the biggest array of radio equipment with which aircraft of this type have ever been equipped. “The forward-facing seats will be

able to withstand a shock equal to 12 times gravity, and the rearwardfacing seats will be able to withstand a shock of 25 times gravity, compared with six times as in the standard Vikings.”
