FOOD FOR BRITAIN
Sir, —In a recent British Broadcasting Corporation broadcast, it was said that the cry of “O Lord, how long?” goes up from the patient, courageous people of Britain. Further cuts have now been made in their rations, and we continue to live a normal life, smiling rather with complacency, every time New Zealand receives fulsome praise about her export of food. There is little or no self-denial; the voluntary system of rationing has proved to be futile, and the apathy of the majority of the people is appalling. When will all decent people rise and demand a stricter rationing of food? It is almost too late: starvation can lake its toll of millions between now and November.—Yours, etc., LEO. June 21, 1946.
