HOMES FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE
ANGLICAN SOCIETY FORMED The building of small homes, similar to the Christchurch City Council’s flats for pensioners, but with the added amenity of communal dining rooms where the tenants may buy a hot dinner, will be the aim of the Anglican Society of Friends for the Aged, an organisation . which was formed at a meeting convened by the Rev. W. S. Southward and the Rev. R. P. Taylor on Tuesday. An architect had estimated the cost of a building which would house 20 persons at approximately . £6OOO, while a building for 40 people would be about £11,500. it was stated. So that building can begin within 12 months, the society will make an appeal for funds* saon. Building sites selected will be as close as possible to Anglican churches. The following were elected to the society’s committee:—the Rev. W S. Southward, the Rev. R. P. Taylor, and the Rev. E. B. Muschamp; Messrs P. Barker. A. S. Ward, McAllister, and F. Heald, Mrs G. Kinsella, Mrs Smithson, Misses M. Bassett, N. Williams, and Jones.
