WOMAN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

Harewood.—Twelve food parcels have recently been sent to Britain by the Harewood branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. This was reported at a recent meeting, at which Mrs M. Orchard presided. It was decided to send 12 more parcels to approved addresses. It was also reported that a wedding cake had been sent to a former gunner in the British Merchant Navy, who had visited New Zealand. The sum of £lO was voted to the headquarters Building Funti of the division. Competition winners were Mesdames Hayton. Moore, Preece, Sharp, Nunweek, and Colleson. Riccarton.— A demonstration of embroidery was given by Miss Rossiter at a recent meeting of the Riccarton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs R. A. Ambridge presided. Mesdames O’Neill and Greenslade were appointed to represent the branch at the division’s conference to be held later this year. Competition winners were as follows:—large bloom, Miss B. Morrison; small bloom, Mrs Franks. Belfast.—Mrs J. Salt presided over a good attendance at the June meeting of the division. Arrangements were made for an afternoon social to be held on July 3 to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of the Women's Division movement in the Dominion. Members stood in silence in sympathy with Mrs Murfitt in her recent bereavement. Six further parcels have been sent to soldiers overseas. Results of competitions were:— large bloom: Mrs Murfitt 1, Mrs Salt 2. Small bloom: Miss Crawford 1, Mesdames J. Crawford and Murfitt (equal) 2. Vase of chrysanthemums: Mrs A. J. Smith 1, Mrs Salt 2. Home-made Idaf: Miss Crawford 1, Mrs J. Thompson 2, Embroidered supper cloth; Mrs Salt 1, Mesdames Murfitt and Farquhar (equal) 1
