MAIOHA RACES CONSISTENTLY

TROTTING

SHOULD DO WELL AT AUCKLAND The roan gelding Maioha has been racing consistently in the Auckland district this season for two wins and seven minor placings in 13 starts, and he will probably be sent out favourite for the Mount Wellington Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow. At his second appearance for the season he finished third to Air Marshall and Aranui Jack in the Parnell Handicap at toe Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on October 20, after leading for most of the way. On the second day of the meeting he led all the way to win toe Alexandra Handicap by a length from Great Belwin, in toe smart time of 3min 17sec for a mile and a half. Maioha lias always raced well over this distance, and he recorded 3min 15 2-ssec when he finished second to Ann Scott in toe Dominion Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on December 29. His next placing was a third to Belhall and Portadown over two miles in the New Year Handicap on the third day of toe Auckland meeting, and at the same club’s meeting in February he finished third to Worthy Gold and Air Marshall in the Railway Handicap and second to Portadown in the Richmond Handicap. In March he again raced well at Alexandra Park, winning the Henderson Handicap from Contender and Sandiways. All Maioha’s placings this season have been gained «at the Auckland Trotting Club's meetings, and at the winter fixture in May he finished second to Bexley’s Pride in the Adams Memorial Handicap and second to Local Gold in toe Mark Memorial Handicap. Owned by Mr H. Windsor and trained by R. McMillan, Maioha is a six-year-old gelding by Dan Direct from Home Brew, and his good record indicates that he should again be hard to beat to-morrow. Jottings

Laurie Bingen is one of toe favourites for the First Oneroa Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting tomorrow. |

Mr A. J. Corrigan, Hawera, has registered a full-brother to Kapai as Parkhill.

G. Cameron is educating a three-year-old filly by Brilliant Globe from Sea Gift for Mr C. Archer. This youngster has a lot to learn, but she is an attractive type. Caledonian Gold raced, well on toe heavy track at the matinee meeting at Auckland last Saturday, and he should be prominent in toe Mt. Hobson Handicap to-morrow at Alexandra Park. Appreciate lost any chance she had when she broke up in the Mayfield Handicap at Ashburton last Saturday. W. J. Doyle will race a four-year-old daughter of Violet Wrack as Passive. Confirmed failed to go away correctly in the Tinwald Handicap at Ashburton and was soon out of the contest.

Now at New Brighton Pre-eminence, which has been trained for some time by W. J. Doyle at Ldeston for Mr E. E. Russell, recently joined L. Davidson’s team at New Brighton. A six-year-old gelding by Great Bingen from Waitaki Girl, Pre-eminence appeared to have good prospects when he beat Golden Shadow and. Liberty Bond in the Acton Handicap at the Ashburton Trotting Club's winter meeting last season, but he has raced disappointingly since then to record one second placing in 14 starts. Davidson also has the promising three-year-old filly, Emily Volo, back in work at New Brighton. By Lusty Volo, she is from Emily de Oro, the dam of Special Agent, Frisky Bill, and News Agent. Bred by Mr J. B. Westerman, Emily de Oro is by Rey de Oro from Doraldina, by O.Y.M. from the Rothschild mare, Dollar Princess, and she is now In foal to Great News, wKlch is by Great Bingen from Daphne de Oro. The latter was got by either Logan Pointer or Rey de Oro from Doraldina, and it will be interesting to see . toe result of Davidson’s experiment in mating these closely-related pacers. Ineligible Evidently toe connexions of Cullton, Hal Derby, and Super Globe expect these pacers to race well at Ashburton tomorrow, as they were all nominated for toe Improvers’ Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting next week. However, the Improvers’ Handicap is for horses at present assessed on 3min 34sec, and not faster than 3mln 3teec, and they were declared ineligible when the handicaps were Issued. Cullion and Hal Derby have both raced recently, but Super Globe is a newcomer. Trained at Yaldhurst by R. J. Berry, he is a three-year-old colt by Springfield Globe from Betty Wrack. May be Favourite

Auto Era, a five-year-old mare by Auto Machine from a Dan Direct mare, has a record of a win and six minor placings in her last seven starts and, on form, she should be one of the favourites for , e^ F l rst Oneroa Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Auto Era was sent out favourite for the Pihama Handicap at the Taranaki and Hawera Trotting Clubs’ combined meeting on June 3. and, well driven by N. R. McKenzie, she created a good impression when she won by a length from King’s Colour.

Making Good Progress R. Motz worked his two two-year-old geldings at New Brighton yesterday morning, and he is well pleased with toe progress they are making. One is bv U Scott from Betty Wrack, the dam of a winner in Jill, and the other, which will wE? uf er L ßar J ls by Gold Bar from Midshipmaid, the dam of Sand Maid. Flinders Bar is one of the biggest two-year-olds seen out this season, and he appears to have bright prospects. South Canterbury J.C. Nominations for two trotting events, 3 an . d 3min 29sec classes, for the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s winter meeting, close on Monday next, at 9 Advt.
