AUSTRALIAN MEANS TEST

(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) CANBERRA. June 19. Although the Prime Minister* (Mr Chifley) told the Labour caucus to-day that taxation cuts were more important than the abolition of the means test, the party passed a motion referring to Cabinet the matter of producing a scheme for the progressive abolition of the test. The result of the decision is that the tax cuts proposed by Mr Chifley will now have to be reconsidered.
