Shooting broke out in Constitution square, in Athens, on the eve of a 24 hours’ general strike called for tomorrow by the EAM-dominated General Confederation of Labour against the Greek Government’s recent emergency legislation for the restoration of law and order. Police clubbed a gathering at a corner of the square and chased the demonstrators into side streets. Workers stoned the police, who fired four shots into the air.
