REHABILITATION COSTS
TOTAL OF £27,287,878 TO END OF APRIL
With an increase of £1,799,253 during April the total authorised cost of rehabilitation reached £27,287,878, says a statement issued by the Rehabilitation Department. These figures do not take into account those relating to farm and trade training and education before the beginning of April. 1944. The total was made up as follows: authorised loans, £19,804,240; trade and farm training and educatiort, £2.213.042; blinded servicemen, £21,065; grants to Disabled Servicemen's) Re-establishment League. £52,000; special grants and allowances, £590.611; aid to Maoris under Maori Rehabilitation Finance Committee, £240.475; purchase and development of land for settlement, together with related expenses. £4,366.445. An analysis of the £19,804.240 worth of loans authorised up to the end of April shows that they were apportioned as follows:—for the establishment of demobilised men on their own farms. £7,302.067: for the erection of houses. £4.023.410: for the purchase of houses. £5,622.566; for the establishment of businesses. £1,608.070: interest free furniture loans. £1.196.660: interest free loans for the purchase of tools of trade. £28,585: miscellaneous,
