TRANSPORT IN CANTERBURY

GOODS AND PASSENGER LICENCES

DECISIONS AT SITTING OF AUTHORITY

Four applications amounting to what counsel described as “a rearrangement of the family holdings” in goods and passenger service licences, came before the No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr V. Raines) yesterday. The parties concerned were Harris Motors (Tai Tapu), Patricia Daphne Harris, William Lyall Harris, sen., and William Lyall Harris, jun., and the applications dealt with transfers of existing licences among the parties. Counsel for the parties (Mr E. B. E. Taylor) said no extension of the existing licences was contemplated. Mr Raines reserved his decision. There seemed no objection to granting the applications, but time was needed tb make out the transfers.

Other applications were granted as follows:—Wardrops Fibrous Plaster, Ltd., 32 Moorhouse avenue, uplift of suspension and renewal of continuous goods service licence, for licensee’s own fibrous plaster only. R. M. Moynihan, 177 Peterborough street, uplift of suspension and renewal of goods licence in the Cheviot and Kaikoura Counties (the latter including the East Coast riding, to carry material for the Public Works Department).

Transfer of a licence to J. N. Fitzgerald, Waiau, from R. M. Moynihan, with the extension of the area between the Rakaia and Clarence rivers. Transfer of licence to T. J. Bell and J. C. Evison, trading as Evison and Bell, from R. R. Gibson.

Transfer of licence to C. C. Hearn, 431 Barbadoes street (Mr W. R. Lascelles) from W. Longdin, Christchurch. Amendment of licence to carry general goods (in- place of the present restricted licence covering the carriage of fruit, vegetables, and potatoes), by F. E. Witbrock, c/o D. M. Park and Company. Transfer of. licence from W. C. McCracken (Mr W. R., Lascelles) to W. C. McCracken and Son, 8 Ashley street, Rangiora.

New continuous goods service licence for N. W. Andrews (Mr R. A. Young), as trustee for 8.0.8. Carriers, Ltd., 254 Gloucester street, for the cartage of general goods in Christchurch. New continuous goods service licence for V. F. Searle (Mr H. de R. Tlesher), 40 Cresswell avenue, Shirley, for cartage of general goods. New continuous goods service licence for H. F., S. A., and E. O. C. Karst (Mr J. B. Corbett) to cart logs and sawn timber for Darfield Timbers, Ltd., within a 3<'-mile radius of Darfield railway station. (Decision was reserved in an application for an extension of the area to Christchurch), in competition with, the rail services. Formal objection was made to this by the Railways Department,
