POSTAL FACILITIES
Sir,—ls it not time that the closing of suburban post offices for an hour at midday was brought to an end? The inconvenience and waste of time caused by this rule are not warranted now that all our servicemen and women have returned from overseas, and thousands of those formerly employed in service camps and offices released from duty.—Yours, etc., v FED UP. June 14, 1946. [The Chief Postmaster, Christchurch, fays: “The lunch hour closing at all permanent Post Offices was abolished on April 8 last. At non-permanent offices conducted in conjunction with stores or other businesses, where only one unit is employed, it is still necessary to close over the luncheon interval. This is so in only a limited number of cases.”]
