ALLEGED BITING OF PLAYER
DEMAND FOR OFFICIAL INQUIRY AUSTRALIAN LEAGUE CAPTAIN (Special Correspondent N.Z.PA.) (Rec. 8 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 18. The Australian Rugby League captain, Joe Jorgenson, to-day demanded an official inquiry into the charge that he bit the English centre threequarters, Jack Kitching, in the first Test match. Kitching was sent off after punching Jorgenson, who had been tackled by Ernest Ward.
Jorgenson said to-day that he resented the charges made by Kitching and wanted an opportunity to deny them officially.
Apparently the Rugby League judiciary committee which heard Kitching’s case last night, did not attach any blame to Jorgenson or he would have been cited to appear. The referee’s evidence was that Jorgenson could not possibly have bitten Kitching from the position in which he was at the time.
This morning the “Daily Telegragh” publishes a picture of Kitching being examined by a masseur, in which marks which could be teeth marks are plainly visible. He was given medical attention for a flesh wound on the left side.
Kitching claimed that when rolling into a tackle he felt a sharp bite, and that he pushed his opponent with both hands to try to release the grip of his teeth. He was then ordered off.
The Rugby League’s medical officer refused to express an opinion.
