JORDAN BRIDGES ATTACKED
Hunt For Terrorists
CASUALTIES AT GAZA (N.Z. Press Association--Copyright) (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON. June 17. “Palestine’s biggest man-hunt is in progress along the Jordan river after a terrorist attack on five important bridges.” says the Jerusalem correspondent of the “Daily Mail.” "The attacks came 24 hours alter the visit of Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery to the Transjordan capital. Annam, and preceded the visit which General Sir Alan Cunningham is making to Annam to ratify the British-Transjordan Treaty. “The terrorists set explosives under the arches of the bridges in a co-ord-inated series of demolitions. The Transjordan Arab Legion and Palestine police were rushed to the scene, t blit none of the raiders has so far been caught. Another report says that terrorist attacks were made on bridges near Haifa and Gaza, and on four road and four rail bridges near the Transjordan frontier. * “One British soldier was killed and two were seriously injured during celebrations connected with the Grand Mufti’s ’return,’ at Gaza. Seven Arabs were hurt.” The Jewish secret radio issued a warning that an answer would be given in blood if •the Palestine Government carried out the death sentences passed on two members of the Irgun Zvai Leumi organisation. The radio also gave a warning to the Jewish secret army, the Haganah, that British military officials held lists of the names of hundreds of its members. The black list included the names of members of the Jewish Agency.
