THE HINEMOA
MASTER APPOINTED
POST FOR CAPTAIN F. W. COLLINS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. Captain F. W., Collins, until recently master of the Union Steam Ship Com* pany’s inter-island steamer Rangatira, has been, appointed to command the new steamer express Hinemoa, which was launched at Barrow-on-Furness on May 30. He will go to Great Britain shortly to bring the Hinemoa to New Zealand.
Captain Collins served his apprenticeship in the Union Company’s training ships Dartford and Aparima, and joined the service as fourth officer in January, 1914, acting in various junior positions until his promotion as chief officer nine years later. During 1929-31 he served as acting-master of several ships, and was confirmed in command m July, 1932. In 1938 Captain Coffin! was sent to the United Kingdom to assume command of the new cargo vessel Korowai. Since then he has had charge of many of the company’s vessels, including the Waipori, Matua, and the hospital ship Maunganui. He later transferred to the Wellington-Lyttel-ton service, commanding the Wahine and Rangatira. Th a head office of the Union Company also announces the appointment! of Mr J. D. Hamilton as chief engineer of the Hinemoa, Mr R. Blampied. as chief officer, and Mr F. <3. Stafford as chief steward.
