CRICKET IN ENGLAND
TEST TRIAL ENDS IN DRAW
LONDON, June 14. The test trial England v. The Rest ended in a drawn game. J. W. Martin, the Kent amateur, was revealed as a ienuine fast bowler. He dismissed EngBind’s opening batsmen for 13 runs and throughout bowled splendidly. The Rests last five wickets- fell in the morning for only 63 fiins. Scores: The Rest—First innings, 209 (Davies 17, Barnett 25, Robinson 8, Martin 0, Hollies 3, Bedser not out 12, extras 15). Bowling: Bowes, three for 50; Wright, four for 56; Ikin, three for 30; Polland, none for 38; Smailes, none for 20. England—First innings, 294 for seven (Wasnbrook 2, Compton 0, Hammond 25, Etutton 82, Hardstaff 115, Smailes 2, Ikin 56, Griffiths not out 0, extras Bowling: Robinson, two for 61; Martin, twe for 65; Bedser, two for .83; Hollies, one for 60. Englands test team against the Indian eleven at Lord’s on June 22 is:— Hammond (captain), P. A. Gibb (Yorkshire). Bowes. Hardstaff, Hutton, Compton, Washbrook, D. V. Wright, Smailes, A. V. Bedser, J. T. Ikin (Lancashire). D. Brookes (Northamptonshire) is twelfth man.
