NEW BUILDINGS IN HAMBURG
BRITISH COMMISSION HEADQUARTERS
(Rec. 10 p.m.) HERFORD, June 14. Plans have been announced for the establishment of the headquarters of the British Control Commission in Hamburg. The present headquarters is spread over Minden, Lubbecke, Bunde. and Detmold. About 35,000 German labourers will be employed in building 10 blocks of flats on the north-west bank of the lake in the centre of Hamburg. Six of the blocks will be of 12-storeys and four of eight storeys. Twenty thousand to 30,000 Germans at present living within the enclave, where the flats are to be built, will be moved, entailing major repair, to 8000 homes elsewhere to accommodate them’.
The financing, preparation, and carrying out of the plan will be entirely German. The ownership of all the new construction will be German, and thus ultimately the new buildings will be available for German use.
