UPRISING IN BOLIVIA

BOMBING OF POLICE HEADQUARTERS (Rec. 11 p.m.) LA PAZ (Bolivia), June 13. The Government has announced that a revolutionary plot was smashed yesterday ana an undetermined number of persons were killed and wounded. A coup was staged by a group of young civilians and Army officers, who used two aeroplanes in an attempt to homb nut the police headquarters in the capital. The uprising was the third attempt against President Gualberto Villarroel’s regime since he a former Army colonel himself, seized the Presidency in a coup in 1943. A former newspaper editor, Guillermo Gutierrez, led the revolt. He was wounded and arrested. The military leader was Major Illianes, who fled when the firing began at 6 am., when the police headquarters were attacked. Government forces helped the police and by midday the revolt had been quelled.
