THE ASHBURTON MEETING

TROTTING

TO-DAY’S PROSPECTS The All-Aged Stakes, the Sapling Stakes, ; two trotting events, and four handicap events for improving pacers, make up the , well-balanced programme for the second ! day of the Ashburton Trotting Club’s ; winter meeting, which will be held toi day. V. Alborn’s bracket, Native Scott and Dundee Sandy, have come into favour for the All-Aged Stakes, and they will probably dispute favouritism with Clockwork and Turco. Of the others, Loyal Nurse and Countless make most appeal. Although there are some useful two-year-olds engaged in the Sapling Stakes, most discussion on the race centres on the prospects of Sahara Queen and Darkie Grattan. These fillies are both good, and they should fight out the finish. County Antrim and Pirouette have worked well at Addington this week, and they should be prominent in the straight. On Approval and Likely are both promising types, but their mistakes at the start have proved costly to their admirers. Track conditions should be similar to those on the first day of the meeting, and some excellent racing should be seen.
