PRIMARY PRODUCE PRICES

NEED FOR STABILITY VIEWS OF AUSTRALIAN MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 14. The value of the interchange of departjnental agricultural officers to the farming- industries of Australia and New Zealand was referred to by the New South Wales Minister of Agriculture (Mr E. H. Graham), replying to the welcome extended him at a gather - ing in his honour in the Cabinet room at Parliament Buildings to-day. He also praised the fertility of the farming districts he had visited in the North Island, the-up-to-date methods adopted and the general efficiency of New Zealand farmers. The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) extended a warm welcome to Mr Graham, who said that Australia and New Zealand had identical problems facing them and it was vital that the two countries should work together in the closest co-operation. He said the carrying capacity of New Zealand farming districts had been a revelation to him. Australia, was doing its best to assist New Zealand with wheat supplies it needed. Efforts were being made in Australia to stabilise the wheat industry over a period of years. If there were to be stability in primary industries, then it was necessary to stabilise prices so that producers could plan ahead.
