SUMS IN EXCESS OF APPROVED PRICE RIGHT TO SUE FOR RECOVERY

Sale§ of land and other transactions requiring the consent of the Land Sales Court under the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act, 1943, are subjected to a stricter measure of control by the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Emergency Regulations, published with to-night’s The regulations give to a person who has’ paid an amount in excess of the price approved by the Court the right to sue for its recovery. At the hearing of such an action any person may be summoned to appear, and be examined, and on such examination a witness will not be entitled to be excused from answering questions put to him on the grounds that his evidence would tend to incriminate him. Any person may be similarly summoned to appear to give evidence in any proceedings relating to an offence against the act If a person so required to give evidence discloses tp the best of his knowledge all the facts on which he is questioned, and thereby gives evidence tending to incriminate himself, he will be entitled to a certificate from the Court freeing him from liability to prosecution in respect of matters disclosed. A further provision is that a land agent’s licence mgy be cancelled if the holder of a licence, or his partner, employee, or agent, is convicted of an offence under the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act.
