The Hon. Sir Archibald Blair has been appointed a member of the second division of the Court of Appeal, in place of the Hon. Mr Justice Northcroft, who is at present overseas as a member of the International Tribunal for the Far East.—(P.A.)

References to the services given by Mr Arthur C. Holmes, who died recently, were made by the chairman (Mr H Sweney) at the monthly meeting yesterday of the Christchurch Advisory Committee of the New Zealand Institute for the Blind. Other members referred to Mr Holmes’S kindliness and sympathetic service, and his help for many years to the institute. Flying Officer L. Withers, formerly assistant boys’ work secretary, was welcomed by the president, Mr W. G. V. Fernje, at the seventieth annualmeeting of the Christchurch Young Men s Christian Association last evening. Flying Officer Withers will shortly resume his duties with the association.
