RETURN OF GLADYS MONCRIEFF
The delightful musical romance, “The Maid of the Mountains,” is to be the opening production of the brief farewell season of J. C. Williamson’s comic opera company, which will begin at the Theatre Royal on June 22. It was in the role of Teresa that Miss Gladys Moncrieff scored her greatest success when “The Maid of the Mountains” was originally staged in Australia and New Zealand. One of Miss Moncrieff’s best song successes is “Love Will Find a Way,” which she sings in the second act, of “The Maid of the Mountains.” The role of Baldasarre is to be taken by Ormonde Douglas, Herbert Browne will appear as Beppo, Bobby Mack as General Malone, Len Gottihg as Tonio. Fred Murray as Crumpet, and Betty Sparks as Vittoria. The opera is to be staged with new scenery and dresses. “The Maid of the Mountains” is to be staged on six nights, with matinees on June 26 and 27. On Saturday afternoon and evening, June 29. “The Merry Widow” will be revived, and on July 1, “Viktoria and Her Hussar” will be performed.
