RABBITS FOR BRITAIN
Sir,—As an experienced rabbiter, may I comment on V. F. Renaud’s sweeping statements on the destruction of rabbits? Apparently his well-con-sidered opinion of 25 years’ experience is that trapping of rabbits will not control the pest. Now, when I say that to trap in the spring and autumn and poison in the winter is the only effective way to control rabbits, and in some cases exterminate them, I am sure that 90 per cent, of runholders and rabbiters will support my statement. I wonder if Mr Renaud could give annual tallies of rabbits killed in the Hurunui Rabbit Board’s area since traps were barred.—Yours, etc., J. W. ROBINSON. Ashburton-Mayfield R.D., . June 12, 1946.
