TRUCE IN CHINA ENDED

Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SHANGHAI, June 12. “After five days, the Chinese Nationalist command in Manchuria called , off the 15-day truce with the Communists and has resumed its advance,” says Reuter’s correspondent. “The decision was taken by the Manchurian commander, General Tu Lu-ming, and Communist branch headquarters in Peiping have been notified. “Nationalists in Peiping said the truce had been cancelled Decause the Communists’ attacks had been continued. A dispatch from Tsingtao reports that 4’eak Government forces are falling back to shortened defence lines outside the city.” The first direct peace meeting between the Chinese Communists and Government representatives for many weeks was held in Nanking yesterday, when the Communist negotiator, General Chou En-lai, conferred with the Chinese Minis; ter of Communications (Mr Yui Ta-wei) after his talks with the United States Ambassador (General G. C. Marshall) yesterday. Each side, meanwhile, is accusing the .other of responsibility for violating the truce in central China.
