The weather lorecast for Canterbury, Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a deep depression is centred south of Campbell Island. An anti-cyclone extends from eastern Australia on to the north Tasman Sea. Forecast to 5 p.m.: light to moderate winds, south-westerlies predominating at first. Weather fair to fine and rather cold. • WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— South-westerlies prevailing, and freshening at times. Weather cool and changeable, with occasional showers and bright intervals. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine but cloudy yesterday. with a light south-west wind. There were some light showers in the early evening. The maximum temperature was 53.7 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning, the sky was clear with a light north-west wind.
