NEW BRIDGE OVER AVON
AVONSIDE-RICHMOND DISTRICT The old bridge over the Avon river at Swann’s road, now near the end ol its useful life, will not be rebuilt. Instead, a bridge will be built between North Avon road on the west and Robson avenue on the east of the river, and provision will be made for the work on this year’s estimates. This decision was reached by the Christchurch City Council last evening on the recommendation of the works committee, which reported having received representations on the subject from the Avonside State Housing Residents’ Association. The association pointed out that the bridge would give residents easier access to a shopping centre, that at Richmond.
