Davis Cup Matches.—France won the first two singles matches in the semi-final of the European zone of the Davis Cup against Jugoslavia. Petra beat Dragutin Mitic, 2-6. 8-6, 6-4. 3-6, 8-6, and Bernard beat Franks Puncec, 2-6. 6-1, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4.—Paris. June 9.
U.S, Tennis Tournament.—ln the Heart of America Tennis Tournament at Kansas City Talbert and Gardner Mulloy, the national doubles champions, defeated Frank Parker and Hal Surface 6-2. 14-12, in the final, which lasted for 150 minutes. Parker defeated Talbert 3-6, 8-6, 6-3. 6-4 in the final of the singles. It was Parker’s fourth consecutive win over Talbert. Mrs Frank Kovacs won the women’s singles 11-9, 6-3, from the eighth national ranking olayer, Mrs Mary Arnold Prentiss. Mrs Kovacs did not play enough tennis last year to gain ranking.—New York, June 10.
Queensland Boxers for N.Z.—The Amateur Boxing and Wrestling Union of Australia has granted permission for a team of Queensland boxers to tour southern New Zealand in September.—Sydney. June 10. Discus Throwing Record. —Bob Fitch, of the University of Minnesota, broke the world discus record, throwing 180 ft 2}in. The previous record of 174 ft 101 inches was established at Milan in 1941 by Adolfo Consolini.—New York, i June 8.
