MEMORIAL GATES FOR PARK
BEQUEST MADE TO CITY Under the will of Mrs Isabel Farrell of Napier, £BOO has been left to the Christchurch City Council for the erection at an entrance to North Hagley f_ ar k of memorial gates in honour of Mr William John Dynes, an early Canterbury settler. The terms of the bequest provide that the gates shall bear the inscription, “Erected by Martha Gray in memory of her father, William John Dynes, late of Canterbury, an 1860 pioneer.” After the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) had pointed out that this was another case of money being left to the City Council m mistake for the Domains P°ard, E <u Lyj? ll ® sai d it was hoped that by the time the money could be paid from the estate, in about six months, the City Council would have taken over the functions of the board. The bequest could be used effectively in the plans for the park. Frost Fish Found at Sumner.—A frost fish five feet long and weighing approximately nine pounds was found on the Sumner beach early on Saturday morning by Mr McCormick, of the Esplanade, Sumner.
