10-YEAR PLAN AND PRIORITIES

REGIONAL COUNCILS TO BE CONSULTED Regional councils and not individual local bodies would be consulted in the fixing of priorities under the 10year development plan, said the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) yesterday, in reply to a question asked in a leading article in “The Press.” To consult each local body would oe cumbersome, and would give rise to the possibility of parochialism, Mr Semple said. Priorities would be fixed on regional and national considerations. It would be the duty of regional councils to consult local bodies, and prepare consolidated reports for the guidance of the Government and the Ministry of Works. The regional councils had no legislative authority but acted in an advisorycapacity.
