MAGISTRATE’S COURT
MONDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.I DESERTION FROM SHIP Charles Edward Dilks. aged 19, and Henry Curran, aged 18. both ship s stewards, were sentenced to one month s imprisonment with hard labour on chafes of deserting the Port Campbell, at Lyttelton on June 6. REMANDED Thomas McNeil, aged 34, a motor driver, was charged with, on June 8, attempting to steal a railway ticket valued at 14s, the property of Gordon Hughey. He pleaded guilty. On the application of SubInspector G. J. Paine he was remanded to appear to-day, it being stated that another charge was pending. ADJOURNED A charge of breaking and entering the shop of Jonn Alfred Nuttall, at 101 Manchester street, and committing theft, preferred against a youth, aged 17, was adjourned until to-day. the Magistrate ordering the accused’s name to be suppressed in the meantime. LICENSING OFFENCES Ernest Arthur Clark. Ivan Cook, Roland Earl Cooke. William George O’Neill, William Robertson and John Turner were each fined 20s, on charges of being on licensed premises outside trading hours. On a charge of attempting to remove liquor from the premises. Cooke was fined £2 Norman James Wallace, licensee of the Heathcote Arms Hotel, was fined £lO on a charge of opening his premises for the sale of liquor outside trading hours.
