KILLING OF ALLIED AIRMEN
HITLER'S ORDER TO LUFTWAFFE
(Rec. 10 p.m.) LONDON, June 9. Major Herbert Buechs, a Luftwaffe adjutant at Hitler’s Headquarters, said at the Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal that Hitler in the Reich’s last days ordered the summary slaying of every Allied airman who bailed out, but Keitel asserted he “would be damned if he would issue such an order.” Hitler accused the Luftwaffe or cowardice in refusing to kill Allied airmen. Buechs said Hitler charged ,that the Luftwaffe had an agreement with the British and American Air Forces for mutual protection. His order to kill those who bailed out was never signed and therefore was never carried out.
