SHIP DIVERTED TO CEYLON
SUPPLIES OF FLOUR (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) COLOMBO, June 7. Nine thousand tons of flour arrived by a ship which the British Government ordered to be diverted in the Indian Ocean, after an appeal from the Governor of Ceylon (Sir Henry MoncVMason Moore) to ease the serious situation arising from the non-arrival of several scheduled foodships. The Government of Ceylon agreed that the cargo would be made good from Ceylon's programme of supplies from overseas. The rice position has not improved, and the weekly ration has been cut nom three to two pounds.
U.S. ARMED FORCES
(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) _ NEW YORK, June 6. The United States Army has dropped from 8,300,000 to 1,900,000. The number of generals has been reduced from 1541 to 660. with more than 100 still to be released. a Tb e Navy has dropped from 3,400.000 and it will have only 558,000 men next September. The number of admirals and commodores will be reduced from 550 to 248.
