SETTLEMENT OF STRIKES

N.Z. GOVERNMENT’S SOLUTION

ADVICE GIVEN BY MINISTER

MELBOURNE, June 4. “When miners go on strike, find out the cause. If it is worthwhile, give in to them, but if it is foolish discard it.” said New Zealand’s ActingMinister of Mines (Mr J. O’Brien), who arrived yesterday to visit his brother, Mr T H. O’Brien, of Melbourne, who is seriously ill. He explained that the New Zealand Government’s simple solution of strikes had been most effective. There was no serious industrial trouble because of the Government’s policy of conciliation and free discussion.
