U.S. AMBASSADOR TO VATICAN
TRUMAN’S REPLY TO PROTESTANTS
(Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 6. Dr. Mac Lean, a Presbyterian member of a Protestant deputation which requested that the United States Ambassador to the Vatican be recalled, said that President Truman had assured the deputation that the appointment was merely a temporary expedient in the interests of the peace negotiations.
Therefore, the appointment might be terminated at an early date. Certainly it would terminate when the peace treaties were signed, the President had said.
The deputation represented 11 Protestant churches.
