The Prime Minister (tke Rt. Hen. P. Fraser) is Visiting east coast centres. He ig expected to return to Wellington on Tuesday. At Ruatoria, Mr Fraser will dedicate a memorial to Mrs Materoa Reedy, the matriarch of the Ngatiporoy tribe, arid the grandmother of Lieutenant Ngarimu, y.G. The Minister of Health (tfie Hob : A. H. Nordmeyer) has aRUPUnced that Dr. H. T. Ritchie, Deputy-Pirectpr? General pf Health, and Dr. |i. B. Turbott. Director of the Division of School Hygiene, will officially reprapent New Zealand at the International Health Conference at New York on June U, leaving by air on June 13. Dr. Ritchie will return immediately, but Dr. Tu»bott will spend a few months inspecting public health services in the United States aha Canada, and later in England. He will be absent from New Zealand for about four months.— (P.A.)
Mr B. L. Hewitt, who will leave New Zealand shortly to take up the appointment pf public relations ofiicer with the New Zealand Occupation Force in Japan, was bidden farewell yesterday by members of the literary staff pf “The Press?’ Good wishes to Mr Hewitt were expressed by the edj? tor (Mr P. H. N. Freeth), the subeditor (Mr L. M. Aitken) and the chief-of-staff (Mr A. W. Packard). Mr Hewitt was formerly an official war correspondent with the 2nd New Zea-, land Expeditionary Force in the Western Desert and Italy, and wjll replace Lieutenant-r Colonel O. A. Gillespie, who has been appointed public relations pfficer with the British Commonwealth Force of Occupation in Japan. Mr I. Lee, public relations manager of Pan American World Airways for the Pacific and Alaska divisions, and Mr Harold Gatty. South Pacific regional manager for tne company, who came to New Zealand with the Douglas Clipper this week, arrived in Wellington by air yesterday. Mr Gatty will interview the Minister of Civil Aviation (the Hon. F. Jones) to-day.— (P.A.)
Mr S. V. Raines, No. 3 Transport Licensing Authority, has been appointed No 4 Authority. The appointment of the z former No. 4 Authority (Mr TH. Langford) has been revoked by notice in the Gazette, but the appointment of Mr Raines as No. 3 Authority remains in force. A vote of condolence with the relatives of Mr A. P. Morrisop, a former member of the Christchurch Technical College Engineering Staff, who died recently, was passed at a meeting' of the Technical College Board of Governors last evening. Dr. D. E. Hapsen said Mr Morrison had done invaluable work which was now leaving its mark on the College.
Mr John Farrell, representing J. C. Williamson’s Theatres. Ltd., arrived in Christchurch., from Dunedin last evening to complete arrangements for the farewell season of the Royal Comic Opera Company.
