SOUTH-BOUND TRAMS
Sir,—l referred lately to the trams not leaving the Square between 7.47 a.m. and 7.54 a.m. for the Sydenham and Spreydon districts. Mr Jarman had no comment to make on my letter. I see that the No. 2 tram to Barrington street and the No. 13 tram to Opawa leave the Square both at 7.45 a.m. Could not one of these trams leave the Square at 7.50 a.m. to take the place of the 7.50 a.m. St. Martins tram that has been taken off? Even the new St. Martins bus does not leave the Square at 7.50 a.m. now. Quite a number of people wait for the Sydenham tram at this time; and it would enable a number of them to get to their work at 8 o’clock.—Yours, etc., STILL HOPING.
June 4, 1946. [“lf either tram was set back to 7.50 as suggested, it would gravely inconvenience the large number of passengers who use them.” said the General Manager of the Christchurch Tramways (Mr H. E. Jarman). “Apart from that, such an alteration could not be made without major alterations to the timetables of other trams on the same route.”]
