THURSDAY (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) REFORMATIVE DETENTION Alien Edward Hunt (Mr J. K. Moloney), who pleaded guilty to a charge of obscene exposure in a public place, and of committing an indecent act, Intending to offend or insult two girls, was sentenced to, reformative detention for 12 months. Mr Moloney said that the prisoner was liable to uncontrollable impulses. The Magistrate said that application could be made for the prisoner to receive medical treatment in prison. THEFT OF CYCLE PARTS Robert McGregor Cumming (Mr* J. K. Moloney) pleaded guilty to eight charges of the theft of bicycle parts, and was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on each of the first two charges, and convicted and discharged on the others. Mr Moloney said that the offences were hard to explain. The accused had stolen parts of cycle lamps and lighting sets, but had kept them in a box at home and had made no attempt to profit by the thefts. He was a returned soldier who had served in the Middle East.

REMANDED Bruce Watts Harding was remanded to June 12 on a charge of the theft of a case of gin valued at £9 3s 7d. the property of Ballins Breweries (N.Z.), Ltd. Bruce Gerald Hoskins, charged with breaking, entering, and theft from the shop of J. A. Nuttall, 101 Manchester street, was remanded to appear on June 10. INSULTIN.G LANGUAGE For using insulting language, Albert John Bryan (Mr J. K. Moloney) was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs and witnesses’ expenses. FINE IMPOSED . £or casting offensive matter, Patrick Joseph Ryan (Mr D. W. Russell) was fined £1 and ordered to pay costs. LICENSING ACT William Joseph Kyle, charged with taking liquor from licensed premises, after .hours, was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs. Charged with being on licensed premises after hours, Arthur Charles Neville and Cyril Simmonds were each fined, £1 and ordered to pay costs. Graham Keith Harvey Brunt, charged with having liquor at a public dance, was fined £3 and ordered to pay costs. Gordon Joseph Mitchell, and Vernon Ernest Mitchell, charged with having liquor near a public dance hall while a dance was being held, were each fined £3 and ordered to pay costs.

TRAFFIC CHARGE James Russell Welsh, charged with riding an unlighted bicycle after dark, was fined £1 and ordered to pay costs. SUNDAY TRADING ALLEGED

Decision was reserved in a charge against Douglas Jefferies (Mr W. R. Lascelles) of Sunday trading. In a charge of assisting in the commission of the offence of Sunday trading against Patrick Clanun, decision was also reserved.

Mr Lascelles said that the defence was that the goods, ordered previously, were merely called for, and he submitted that no sale took place on the Sunday.

CIVIL COURT (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following civil cases:—Robert Allan Jenkinson v. W. Buckley, £4 Is; Adamson Dudley Advertising, Ltd., v. A. G. Coley, £9 15s; G. Batstone and Son, Ltd., v. T. MiUer, £7 18s.

JUDGMENT SUMMONS On'a judgment summons, George Cotton was ordered to pay J. J. Niven and Company, Ltd., £6 18s Id forthwith, in default seven days’ imprisonment, warrant to be suspended as long as defendant pays 20s a week.
