SERIES OF RECENT INCIDENTS
-Conversion of a motor-car. at Methven, the ransacking of a hotel safe in Christchurch, an attempt to break into a chemist’s shop in Christchurch, suspected pillaging of goods from a coastal vessel, and the theft of comer tools, fishing gear and clothing from a bach at Taylor’s Mistake, have been reported to the police. The car was taken from White’s Garage, Methven, on Wednesday night, garage being ransacked for petrol end money the same evening. The car .was recovered in St. Asaph street at 4 p.m. yesterday. There were about »15 cars in the garage at the time, and »the contents of most of these had been disturbed and (in some instances) jstolen. About £2 in cash was stolen tfrom the office. Attempts were also pnade during the same night to enter iseveral other business premises in NMethven.
The office of the White Hart Hotel in eh street was ransacked in the early rs of yesterday morning, about 3s iash being stolen. Several drawers he office were broken open, but nq mpt was made to force the safe.
An attempt to force an entry into C. W. Price's pharmacy in Ferry road during the week-end proved unsuccesful. though several holes were bored in a line directly above the bolt on the inside of the door. Indications were that the attempt had been interrupted. A bale of carpeting valued at £3O was among goods which were suspected to have been pillaged from the Storm, between Wellington and Christchurch. In several instances whole cases of goods did not reach consignees In Christchurch and Dunedin.
