MR SCRIMGEOUR’S STATEMENT

COMMENT BY MINISTER “GROSSLY MISLEADING” (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. “The second statement issued by Mr Scrimgeour is grossly misleading and full of irrelevancies and evasions, and I do not propose, after this, to reply further, as I am content to let the public judge whether he has been discriminated against or not," the Minister of Broadcasting (the Hon. D. Wilson) said to-day. Mr Wilson added that there were a few matters that required a reply. Mr Scrimgeour had not suffered because the Minister did not appeal for him. as he had been given facilities to appeal. Mr Wilson quoted a letter written to Mr Scrimgeour in which the Minister expressed regret that Mr Scrimgeour had not advised him that the man selected as acting-controller had military obligations, and added that grade 1 men in the service were there because Mr Scrimgeour recommended them for exemption. There was no evidence of discrimination at any time. The decision that Mr Scrimgeour should serve in the Army was made by the Appeal Board, and not by the Government.
