THE GENERAL ELECTION
DEMOCRATIC LABOUR CANDIDATES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 17. Mr Horace E. Herring, a former Labour member of Parliament for MidCanterbury, who contested the Christchurch East by-election as a Democratic Labour candidate, has been selected to contest the Wellington North seat for Democratic Labour. Mr S. McDougall, a son of Mr David McDougall. a former member fbr Mataura, has been selected by the Democratic Labour Party to contest the Wellington West seat. LABOUR CANDIDATE FOR NORTHERN MAORI (P.A.) AUCKLAND. June 17. An announcement that he has agreed to accept nomination for selection as the Labour candidate for the Northern Maori seat at the General Election was made by the Rev. K. T. Harawira, chaplain to the forces (third class), who recently returned to New Zealand after three years’ service as padre of the 28th Maori Battalion. Mr Harawira served on Gallipoli. As president of the Arawa Maori returned Soldiers’ League he played an important part in the formation of the Maori Battalion.
