HONEY CONTROL
ALLEGED THREAT TO APIARISTS From Our Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, June 16. An allegation that pressure was being brought to bear on honey producers to accept control by threats that they would lose their petrol allowances if they did not accept, was made by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (Opposition, Waitomo) in the House of Representatives to-day in a notice of question to the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. J. G. Barclay). The question was: ‘‘Does the Minister propose making an increase in the present price for honey, considered by beekeepers with an average number of hives to be inadequate, and will he assure all beekeepers that their petrol allowances will be maintained?” Mr Broadfoot said that beekeepers considered that apiarists with 1000 hives, and those in the best districts, could carry on at the present price for the commandeer of 70 per cent, of production; but that smaller keepers were in difficulties.
