HELP FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS

FIGURES IN CHRISTCHURCH DISTRICT From Our Parliamentary Reporter WELLINGTON, June 15. Figures of the rehabilitation help given returned soldiers in the Christchurch district were given in the House of Representatives this evening by Miss M. B. Howard (Government, Christchurch East) as follows: Loans for furniture, applications granted 109, value £9201; tools of trade, 8, £137; businesses, 8, £2090; homes, 55, £51,115; small farms. 5, £6860. Engineering courses had been given 98 men, and 13 more were in training. Twenty-four had been trained as carpenters, and were working on State houses. Another 24 were in the carpentry training school, with more men on the waiting list. She expressed appreciation of the sympathetic help given returned soldiers by the rehabilitation officer, Mr F. Walker.
