£IO,OOO SHARED
JAPANESE BARBER’S LUCK “ The Press" Special Service A AUCKLAND, June 14. A Japanese barber and a New Zealand bank clerk, both residents of rokomaru Bay, East Coast, recently won £SOOO each in an overseas lottery, riio Japanese is Mr Joe Chino and the New Zealander is Mr L i C. Crommlin. They shared a ticket which won the fust prize of £IO,OOO. Mr Chino, who is more than 60 years of age and unmarried, has lived in the district for at least 30 years, apart from occasional visits to Australia. He has been a naturalised British subject for many years and is a most popular figure in the community. Because of failing eyesight, he has not been able to work continuously as a barber. Much of his time is now occupied in gardening, but he still makes a point of cutting his friends’ hair for nothing, as he has a most independent nature. He has made generous contributions to patriotic funds.
Mr Crommlin is also a bachelor and has lived in Tokomaru Bay for several years. His luck did not desert him after winning the £SOOO. Just recently he won a further £5 and a free ticket in another lottery.
