THE TRAMWAYS
1 MORE PASSENGERS, HIGHER REVENUE The passengers carried and the revenue earned by the Christchurch Tramways Board showed an all-round increase during the period from April 1 to May 16, as compared with the corresponding period last year, according to a report presented by the Works and Traffic Committee qf the Christchurch Tramways Board yesterday. The following figures (the increase in parentheses) shows the business done by the tramways staff during the period:—Cash fares, 2,499,643 (321,442); trip cards, 956,220 (59,620); 24 ride cards, 527,016 (53,808); school tickets, 69,800 (22.590); apprentice tickets, 36,975 (3327); total, 4,089,654 (460,787). The revenue for the same period was;— Cash fares, £28.644 (£3766); trip cards, £10,548 (£741); 24-ride cards, £4564 > (£488); school
tickets. £255 (£82); apprentices’ tickets. £253 (£15); total, £44,264 (£5092).
