The Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash). Lord Burghley. and Group Captain C. B. Wincott will leave by air for Wellington this morning. Lord Burghley will inspect a New Zealand aircraft factory in Wellington Province, ' ! Congratulation to the Hon. W. Perry on his-appointment to the War Cabinet was expressed by the executive of the Christchurch Returned Services' Association last evening. A resolution by the executive expressed satisfaction at the implied recognition of the paramount importance of maintaining New Zealand's part in the Allied war effort. A vole of sympathy was passed by members of the Christchurch Tramway Board yesterday with the relatives of Mr W. Hayward, a member of the board from 1927 to 1938, and deputy-chairman in 1928 and 1929, who died recently. A letter of sympathy had already been sent to the wife and family of the late Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. Because of ill-health, Mr W. H. Clark has resigned his seat on the board of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, Ltd., which he has. occupied, with one break, since 1906. Mr Edgar F. Stead- has been appointed to fill the vacancy caused by his resignation. Mr A. E. Ramsden has been appointed to take the place of the late Mr G. W. /-milage. The committee of Lloyd’s Register of Shipping has appointed Mr E. P. Combeliack to the position of Surveyor to Lloyd’s Register of Shipping at the port of Lyttelton. Mr Combellack has been appointed to fill the vacancy cause by the death of Mr J. Fenwick-Taylor. The results of the poll of members for the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society are as follows (names in order of preference): —Messrs F. W. Billens, H. W. Harris. J. Mackenzie, E. Eggleston, 'J. H. McMillan. W, A, C. McDonald, T. E. Fisher. Dr. D, McK. Dickson, N. McGillivray, M. F. Macfarlane. F. Banks, W. I. Ward, C. H. Stonyer, E. ,L. Wyles, W. Savage, C. H. Lawrence, L. F. Tisdall, J. D. E. Winskill, W. H. Fergusson, L. F. Foote. Regret at the deaths of Messrs F. H. Pratt, J. F. Canning, J. A. S. Short, and R. L. Anderson was expressed at the meeting of the executive of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association last evening. Leading Aircraftsman James Edward Kerr, who was killed in the tram accident in Wellington on Saturday, was a son of Mr and Mrs J. Kerr, of Talbot street, Geraldine. Educated at the Geraldine District High School, he served his time as a motor mechanic, and to gain further experience he joined the Public Works Department at Temuka. He was .later engaged in Public Works Department undertakings in, Fiji, where he remained for nearly a year. Returning to New Zealand, he resumed work at Temuka and then went to Rarotonga on further Public Works undertakings. After his return to New Zealand he applied for a position advertised by the R.N.Z.A.F., which he held at the time of his death. Hi was stationed at a North Island Air Force station. The funeral will take place at Geraldine tomorrow.
