PROVINCIAL FIRE BRIGADES
ANNUAL MEETING AT SUMNER Delegates representing the Temuka, Ashburton. Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Addington Railway, Geraldine, New Brighton, apd Sumner Fire Brigades attended the annual meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Fire Brigades’ Association at Sumner. They were welcomed by the DeputyMayor of Sumner (Mr E. T. Chitty), who referred to the excellent work done by the brigades. It was decided to write to the Fire Controller about E.P.S. and E.F.S. personnel being permitted to compete in demonstrations. The past president (Mr Chapman) was presented with a past president’s badge and made a life member of the association. The resignation of the secretary (Mr O’Neill) after nine years in office was received with regret, and it was decided to record appreciation of his services. The reformed Addington Railway brigade was affiliated with the association. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting at Ashburton, and an invitation from the Addington brigade to hold the next demonstration on Labour Day there was received. The election of officers resulted:— President, Foreman L. Peters (New Brighton); vice-presidents, DeputySuperintendent D. Brett (Geraldine) and Branchman E. O’Neill (Sumner); secretary and treasurer. Fireman .W. Hpbby (Addington Railway); auditor, East president R. B. Hean; trustees, uperintendent E. Cummings and Fireman P. Hill (both Addington): brigade representatives, Deputy-Su-perintendent Hickey (Ashburton). Fireman Stokes (Temuka), and Superintendent Knight (Geraldine). A credit balance of £35 Os Id was reported.
