VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 11. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall), attended by Major C. J. Hol-land-Martin, to-day visited Ohakea, where he inspected the Lancaster bomber on its arrival from Australia. Lord Burghley, British Controller of Repair and Overseas Supplies, has arrived at Government House. Congratulations to the Hon. W. Perry on his appointment to, the War Cabinet were extended by his colleagues in the Legislative Council yesterday. The Leader (the Hon. D. Wilson) said that the appointment was an honour to Mr Perry and to the council, and no better appointment could have been made. Mr Perry had always been reasonable and unbiased, and was the best person to fill the gap caused by the death of Mr Coates. He had done wonderful work for returned soldiers, and now that he was appointed to the War Cabinet they should have every confidence that their point of view would be well looked after there.—(P.A.) The Hon. Mr Justice Northcroft will leave Christchurch to-day to attend the sittings of the Court of Appeal in Wellington, Mr L. C. Fitch, a member of the literary staff of ‘‘The Press," was yesterday admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court by the Hon. Mr Justice Northcroft, on the motion of Mr E. S. Bowie. The president, Mr John Brooks, and Mr C. H. Bethell will represent the Canterbury A. and P. Association at the annual meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand at Wellington on June 23. Mr J. L. Macfarlane has been appointed as the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s representative to the electoral committee of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board in place of Mr G. H. Grigg, who did not seek reappointment.
