MAORI LAND CLAIMS

Sir,—A letter appearing in your tissue of June 6 over signature of "Te j manu-o-te-ata" is interesting. Surely |he is a pakeha. Mr Nash's statement is merely a repetition of one made just before every election. The Labour Party is once again wooing the Maoris' vote by promises of settlement of their claim. Mr Tirikatene, M.P.. should have seen to this. ' This is just political humbug in its worst form. Surely after eight years of office something should have been finalised. It was an avowed plank of Labour policy in 1935 to settle justly the Ngai-Tahu clairn and now we hear that the party is promising to do something once.again. There is another election this" year, but the Maori will not be fooled this time. —Yours, etc.. TE AROHA TE IWI MAORI. June 10, 1943.
